Artist Statement

Creating is an essential element of my life experience. It is my spiritual practise, as essential as eating, sleeping and loving…..

My work is an expression of my present experience within the world and my aim is to create imagery that communicates this. Sometimes it’s a story, sometimes a feeling, and sometimes it’s just a raw exposure of my essence. As I allow myself to be exposed as such, I wish to inspire the viewer to look deeper within their own experience of the world and explore their own connection to Spirit.

Sometimes I feel like a dancer, maintaining lightness in space and time, freedom and control, searching for harmony and discord or the places where they intersect. Sometimes I feel like an engineer in an organic jungle of colour, rhythm and light. Sometimes I feel like the journey is so long, the mountain so high that I was crazy to begin at all… and then there are times when there is no feeling but the pure torturous bliss of creation.

My recent work has been exploring colour. Colour is wondrous and magical. It affects the soul at a profound level.  With colour, a painting brings a more powerful presence to a space. It is fascinating to experiment and explore this realm.

Poetry and the word has also begun to fascinate me. Through recent studies of creative writing I gained an awareness of the sense of story that was present in our lives, our culture, our heritage. Myths, legends, social etiquette; layers upon layers of it. Beginning by feeling into my own stories, tapping in, I discovered much to be revealed.

I am deeply grateful to Ron Curran who, through his Dynamic Drawing classes has inspired me to use this form as a way of exploring and developing my own language of expression.  More recently, I am currently blessed to be studying with Camilla Connolly who, with her courage, devotion and commitment to the artistic process, inspires my own.

The more I create, the greater my sense of wholeness. I dream of making art. My bliss is to be in my studio absorbed in a project, alive with the experience. There are so many more adventures to be had…..
